- it is usually (not always) based on English, which makes it easier for
- English speaking hams.
-

-
- Guess that's why the military, extremely concerned about reliability, uses
- it so much. I've seen an Amtor QSO continue when I can't even hear the
- incoming signal.

- I think if you calculate throughput/bandwidth, you will find some of the
- other digital modes are more efficient. Ever try sending large files
- using CW? 12wpm CW is about one character/sec.
-
- >... fsk take up more than a khz for only one conversation.
-
- The ARRL handbook says HF RTTY takes up about 300 Hz for 130wpm with
- a better SNR than CW. I would like to hear ten 13wpm CW conversations
- going on in that same 300 Hz bandwidth (not saying it's impossible).
-

-
- I still don't understand why it is good to _memorize_ Morse code and bad
- to _memorize_ question pools.
-
- And Bill, your signature in Morse code sure took up more bandwidth than
- it would have in ASCII. :-)

-
- This "voluntary activity" involves obtaining a license from the GOVERNMENT to
- regain a privilege that that government has, by law, taken away. When the
- only choices are "do as Uncle Sam says or find another hobby" it isn't truly
- voluntary.
